A Hand made Sierra Pen With Mexican Kingwood
This is a handmade sierra wooden pen with a high quality chrome and gold trim hand turned in my own UK workshops.
The pen barrel has been hand turned from a piece of Mexican kingwood whose name comes from several French kings (louis XIV and louis XV) who preferred the wood in the use of fine furniture.
The wood is mounted on my lathe and turned to round and shaped. Once shaped it is sanded through to 400 grit and then up to 8 coatings of cyanoacrylate (superglue) are applied this is then polished to 12000 grit using micromesh for a super hard and durable high gloss finish. The wood needs to be sealed with a durable finish not the wood turners traditional friction polish or wax as these are not durable enough for daily use. Sealing the wood will prevent the natural oils from the skin staining and discoloring this beautiful wood.
This pen uses a Parker style G2 medium ball point black refill available from my pen spares & refills or any other good stationery suppliers.
All of my pens come in a presentation box. As every piece of wood is different in grain and figure even within the same larger piece these handmade wooden pens will make great gift ideas and unique wooden 5th wedding anniversary, christmas or birthday gifts.
