What Are The Different Types Of Wood We Use?
Differing types of solid wood can be used for making a pen: hardwoods and softwoods. Hardwood is typically oakwood, maple or rosewood and are all dense hardwoods. Softwood generally is pine, cedar, or yew. Though things are not that simple, hard timber is sometimes hard on the handtools, while spalted beech may be too soft. For the best hand turned pens, we prefer turning figured or burl wooden pen blanks.
