In celebration of Halloween, I’ve compiled a list of my top ten Halloween films of all time. Not all horror stories have to be about a zombie apocalypse; in fact, some are just fun and thrills.

  1. “Hocus Pocus” (1993). A comedy by Kenny Ortega. The movie follows a trio of sorcerers resurrected by a virgin teenager in Salem on Halloween night. It has developed a cult following after receiving mixed reviews from critics upon its release.”Nightmare Before Christmas” (1993). An animation about a skeleton who lives in the fictional Halloween town. As “Pumpkin King,” he organises the yearly Halloween celebrations. However, this year, he has grown tired of the same annual routine and wants something new.
  2. “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” (1966) – a timeless adaptation of Charles M. Schulz’s Peanuts comic strip. Charlie Brown gets invited to a Halloween party, and most guests dress up as ghosts in white sheets. However, Charlie Brown is not very creative and does not know what to wear. Snoopy crashes the Halloween party and ruins everything.
  3. “Scream” (1996) – Wes Craven directed this 1996 American slasher film. Although it may seem like a recent trend, slasher films have actually been around since the early 1900s. In the 70s and 80s, slasher films got their peak in popularity and Scream revitalized the genre in 1996. The plot follows a group of teenagers who a masked killer targets in a small town.

Following the adventures of a teenage girl named Marnie Piper and her relatives. They explore the town and battle against an evil demon attempting to take over the world.
  8. “Beetlejuice” (1988). By Tim Burton, the plot revolves around a recently deceased couple. Michael Keaton plays Beetlejuice, an afterlife resident with a morbid sense of humour. The film also stars Winona Ryder and Alec Baldwin.
  9. “Ghostbusters” (1984). NYC parapsychologists create a ghost-catching company in this supernatural comedy. Written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis and produced by Ivan Reitman.
